DX radio stations were used many decades ago. Though DX could hardly be
called a hobby and served for various purposes, DX was a popular activity
before and after the First World War. Amateur radio has actually witnessed
its several revivals, new developments and other defining points in its
history. The United States were the very place with the highest rate of
interest to a new type of communication with people in different parts of
the world. Later this activity started gaining huge popularity and appeared
to be the main hobby in many other countries for a long period of time.

contacts. American operators were also the first to introduce short-wave
