Default ICOM IC-R75 - Tuning Knob Issue

John Dusek wrote:

Hi -

I just purchased a used ICOM IC-R75 over eBay.

The radio seems to work fine in all ways except the tuning knob.

Whether the knob is turned clockwise or counter-clockwise, the tuning setting goes downward.

Its like both directions are telling the radio to turn the knob counter-clockwise.

I did a soft reset of the radio/CPU base don the instruction manual, and left the radio turned off for a period of time - neither changed this behavior.

Has anyone ever heard of this before? any easy fixes?

Thoughts or suggestions welcomed.

John

I've never worked on an ICOM R75 but, in this case, the first thing I
would look at is the encoder. Probably not an easy fix if you aren't
familiar with that sort of repair.

Kiwa offers several services for these radios including encoder repair:

Main Tuning Encoder repair
If the Main Tuning Knob is erratic or stopped working, the encoder
requires repair. The R75 shares the same encoder as the Icom 756 and
other newer Icom receivers. $80.00

I've never dealt with Kiwa, so this isn't a personal endorsment.
