So? There was slavery throughout the British Empire. It was legal, if
not moral.

The laws were CHANGED in the British Empire and most of the US.

The Confederates wanted to SPLIT the US in order to create their SAFE
SPACE from an inevitable CHANGE in American slavery law.

Guys who rather split a nation and go to war to preserve slavery don't
deserve a statue. That's a better deal than getting hung for treason.
