Well I guess it is a sloping 160M vertical

We live on 7 acres at almost 4000 ft elevation. Less than a mile to the
west are the Elkhorn Mountains with millions of tall pine trees.
Unfortunately the seeds never migrated to our place so I have very few pine
trees the tallest of which is about 50 feet. I got a line over the top and
pondered what sort of wire antenna I could erect for 160 meters since I am
well equipped antenna wise on all of the other bands.

From where I needed to feed whatever antenna I chose there was about 136...

NVIS question

I an going to put together a NVIS for the NY QSO Party. My idea is to take
the vertical off its lower mounting section and plac a piece of PVC over
this to hold the top of the NVIS. The NVIS would then be over the center of
the radial field which is 48 radials, about 1200 feet of wire in the
ground, Good idea or bad or doesnt the radial field even matter? Im not
going to hook the ground to the radial plate since it seems to me that Id
have a kind of inverted V with one side being 1200 feet.

HF antennas with bad reputations.

Gday all, Ive been using a home brew 20 m ground plane vertical for a few
weeks now which is working out very well, indeed better than anything that
Ive previously used in its general class of single element antennas.

Yet I think that verticals generally have had bad reputations per se. I
recall that comment many years ago that verticals radiate equally poorly in
all directions. Well mine doesnt! It radiates very effectively in all
directions. I love it. It is interesting though...

Loading coils

Im building a loaded coil dipole. Got one built and was in the process of
winding the second one and ran out of wire about 15 turns short. Can the
wire be spliced? Using 18ga enameled magnet wire....

Thanks, Steve KM4SLW

VHF/UHF dual band directional antenna

Good day, friends.

I would like to receive your advice about the best antenna in its class I
could install.

I want to have a directional, horizontal polarization, dual band (144/432
MHz) antenna, fed with only one cable and not too long (say around 2 meters
(almost 7 feet) boom length. I have built and worked 12 elements K1FO in 2M
and 22 elements K1FO in 70 cm and both worked fantastic, but they are very
big for this new location. I could build shorter K1FO antennas, but I still
would...
