Recently saw the film Purple Haze, released in 1982 and filmed in Minneapol
is and St. Paul (lots of great shots). One of the characters is a late nigh
t dj, the savage, and there's an exterior shot of what looks like a large h
ouse with a giant painted KDAN covering the entire side of the building. Th
e movie doesn't circulate, unfortunately, due to licensing issues with all
the sixties classics used on the soundtrack.

There are also studio shots, though no idea if those would have been done a
t KDAN. From what the director, David Burton Morris, said at the screening,
everything was done with no $ and asking favors, so they wouldn't have bui
lt a studio set and may well have shot at KDAN.
