Yeah, it sounds highly suspicious that the people who are interested in
utilizing the abilities of amateur radio in emergency communications would
want to have a list of the amateur radio operators who are going to
participate. Who knows, next the state will want a list of people licensed
to drive. Could they be planning on confiscating cars? Of course the
current lack of a centralized government database of licensed amateurs
(complete with addresses) is all that's keeping the government from moving
against us. ;)

Don't want to be in this Homeland Security database, don't join ARES!
Simple as that.

From the Indiana ARES Newsletter 19 November 2004:

(quote)Our Section Emergency Coordinator has placed a copy of the
Indiana Section ARES Plan online. Visit the INARRL.ORG website to get a
copy. Additionally he has links put on the page for the FSD-98 and
FSD-212 forms. These are there for your convenience and are not
required to be used. However, if you make a copy of the FSD-98 Station
Registration Form and mail it to Dave N9YNF, he will forward it to the
appropriate EC.

Dave reports that he has been talking with the Indiana Homeland
Security. They
are very interested in having Amateur Radio Operators available as a
resource.
This will require re-districting the DEC Zones in the Indiana Section
to match
the State Homeland Security Zones. This change will become effective
January
1, 2005. The re-zoning maps are on the Indiana Section ARRL
Website.(www.inarrl.org) Also, it will become necessary to start
collecting
the ARES station information on the FSD-98 forms and putting them into
a
centralized Section Database. (end quote)

Reread the part where it says "STATE HOMELAND SECURITY ZONES" and
"NECESSARY TO START COLLECTING INFORMATION." How about "CENTRALIZED
DATABASE?"

Collecting information on who has two way radios?
Next Collecting information on who owns guns?
Who has access to this "Database" and for what prupose?

DOES THIS RING ANY WARNING BELLS WITH ANYONE ELSE?
Just a thought for discussion.
