You can also rig your mobile radio to some quick connect power connectors of
some kind and use it at home and the truck. You would still need to get a
battery or power supply for it. If not, either of those radios seem fine. I
use a Yeasu VR-2 HT for my base into a attic antenna. No problems working
the local repeaters. I didn't look too close at the mobile but I think the
HT listed is a bit newer and probably has PL tone generation built in. Most
repeaters require tones to turn them on (helps prevent false keying due to
noise). Also, since you do have a mobile (that could be brought into the
house if needed), I'd lean toward the HT. This way you can baby carriage
mobile......
