Directional antennas are not foolproof! I was briefly chief engineer for
a small town AM station in Ohio, when I needed a job between college and
grad school and happened to have a 1st class commercial license which
was needed. We had a couple of verticals fed through a phaser: Our
license required us not to send any RF northward. So it was embarrassing
when we got a QSL card from Ontario! One of my jobs was to measure the
current at the base of each tower once per day, and those were right on,
but we had no way to test the phase relationships.
In posting this I am hoping there is some statute of limitations for an
offense back in the early 1960's...
