One downside to owning a FlexRadio is that you need a computer to operate
the thing. (It can be used with a Maestro, but a Maestro is just a PC in a
custom package.) The other day after I woke up the computer, it reminded me
that I needed to update the Windows 10 software. It had been a while, so I
gave the command to go ahead.
This update to more than an hour, during which time I was off the air. I
hadnt expected that at all, as earlier updates had taken far less time.
Fortunately, I had other things to do around the shack, so it wasnt a
complete waste of time.
The moral of the story is that if you really need your Flex to be on the
air, say for a contest or a net, dont decide to upgrade just before the
event.
A CW QSO every day
Ive often mentioned that I try to average at least three CW QSOs per day.
Well, yesterday, I worked Glen, W1ND, who siad that I inspired himÂ* toÂ*
work at making one CW QSO every day, and that to date in 2020, hes
accomplished that feat. Not only that, he reports that his CW has gotten
much better over the course of the year. Way to go, Glen!
All in the family
Last week, I worked Lou, KD2ITZ.Â*(ImÂ*including his QSL card below because I
like the design.)
Lou reports that his son, Vince, KD2VAV, used my study guide to get his
license recently. Hows that for keeping it all in the family!
I asked Lou if Id be hearing Vince on CW anytime soon, but Lou didnt think
that would be happening anytime soon. You never know, though. Lots of hams
dont get interested in working CW until theyve been in the hobby for a
while.
