Holiday 2020 (12/3 - 1/6) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 4: WUNC-FM Has
Record Setting Month

The fourth and final day of Nielsen Audios PPM releases bring Austin,
Raleigh/Durham, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Nashville, Providence, Norfolk,
Jacksonville, West Palm Beach, Greensboro, Memphis, and Hartford.

Public News/Talk 91.5 WUNC-FM Raleigh bucked the holiday music trend and
not only led its market, but sent a station record in the process. WUNC-FM
has trended up 8.3 9.4 9.9 the past three months.
Capitol Broadcasting AC “Mix 101.5” WRAL-FM was down slightly from its 9.1
share in 2019 with a 9.0 this year. Ahead of its flip to Classic Rock just
after Christmas, Curtis Media Hot AC “92.9 Star-FM” 570 WPLW was up with
holiday music with a 1.6 share this year after 0.9 last year. iHeartMedia
AC Mix 99.5 WMAG Greensboro added an additional 2.5 share of Christmas
music listening.
WMAG added a 16.8 share in its home market of Greensboro, which Ratings
Expert Chris Huff notes is the largest share in the market since 1993.
WMAG, which rebranded as Mix 99.5 the week before Christmas, rose from a
16.2 in 2019.
Entercom AC “Majic 95.5” KKMJ Austin is on a three year upswing from 9.5 in
2018 to 11.8 in 2019 and 13.1 share in 2020. Huff notes that is the largest
share in the market since 1996.
The highest single station share of the days markets goes to Entercom AC
Lite 100.5 WRCH with a 17.5 share albeit down from 18.6.
Emmis AC “B105.7” WYXB Indianapolis slides massively from an 18.2 share in
2019 to 13.1 this year. WYXB gained a new AC competitor this year in
Cumulus 107.9 The Mix WNTR, and that station added a 4.4 share with regular
format programming.
Renda AC 96.1 WEJZ Jacksonville slips from an 18.4 in 2019 to 15.1 this
year. Cox Media Group Soft AC “Easy 102.9” WEZI went all-Christmas just for
the week before Christmas and rose from a 5.3 in December to 5.5.
Entercom Adult RB “95.7 RB” WVKL continues to lead Norfolk with a 12.8
share. Co-owned AC “101.3 2WD” WWDE has trended down the past three years
from a 13.6 in 2018 to 12.4 in 2019 to 11.4 this year. iHeartMedia Rhythmic
AC “Movin 107.7” WMOV-FM rose 3.1 to 3.8 year-to-year.
Hubbard Classic Hits “Sunny 107.9” WEAT-FM West Palm Beach plummets from a
12.5 in 2019 to an 8.7 share. iHeartMedia AC Kool 105.5 WOLL went Christmas
this year after skipping the past few years and rose from a 4.4 share in
2019 to 6.8 this year.
Midwest AC “Mix 92.9” WJXA Nashville slips from a 15.8 in 2019 to 15.0 in
2020. Salem Christian AC “94 The Fish” falls from 4.0 in 2019 to 2.8 this
year.
Both Christmas stations were down significantly in Milwaukee. iHeartMedia
Classic Hits “95.7 Big-FM” WRIT falls 11.8 to 10.4 year-to-year, while
Milwaukee Radio Alliance AC “B93.3” WLDB drops 11.4 to 8.5.
Cumulus AC “Lite Rock 105” WWLI Providence slips down 16.8 to 15.1.
The two Christmas stations in Memphis fell as both Adult RB stations rose.
Cumulus Medias 103.5 WRBO led the market with an 11.0 with iHeartMedias
“V101” KJMS was second at a 10.0. Entercom AC “104.5 The River” WRVR has
trended down each of the last few years sliding from 11.3 in 2018, 9.4 in
2019 and 8.8 in 2020. Cumulus Soft AC “98.9 The Bridge” WKIM-FM falls from
2.9 in 2019 to 1.5 in 2020.
Newly launched AAA 91.1 WNXP Nashville debuts with a 0.3 share down from a
1.2 in its final monthly as Classical WNCL.
Waterloo Media Hot AC Lucy 93.3 KGSR Austin is slowly trending up 0.7 1.0
1.4. The station flipped back to Hot AC in November and rebranded as Lucy
the first week of January.
The Black Information Network finally cracks a 1 share at one of its
affiliates as 105.3 WNOH Norfolk trends up 0.6 0.9 1.2.
Radio One CHR Radio Now 100.9 WNOW-FM Indianapolis trends up 1.9 2.3 2.6,
while Cumulus CHR 99.5 WZPL fell 4.9 to 3.7.
Cumulus Classic Hits 104.5 WJJK Indianapolis had one of the steepest
month-to-month declines falling from a 9.5 to 6.9 share.
Hubbard New Country 103.1 WIRK West Palm Beach jumped up 2.1 to 3.0.
Cumulus CHR 92 Pro-FM WPRO-FM Providence slipped 5.8 to 5.4, for what Huff
notes is its lowest share since 1997.
