random wire auto tuner vs 4:1 Balun

I have used an SGC 230 to tune a eandom long wire with great results
but it died and I installed a 4:1 balun and now us the internal 50 ohm
tuner in my Icom IC 746. It tunes the long wire the same but is it as
efficient as the SGC?

I plan on putting up a flagpole antennae and want to use the 4:1 balun,
one side to the ground radials and the other to the flagpole. Appreiate
any advice in this project.

Not meaning to give a short answer, but no "tuner" is 'efficient'. Of you
may already know that :). I would theorize (sic?) that the SGC would be
more "efficient" simply because of larger inductors and more capacity;
sometimes, bigger IS better! :) Same way a large bugcatcher is more
efficient than a hamstick!

Perhaps, someone else has more...........................?

Good luck.
