I have a Montana van and use a 13½" high, open coil (Comet, I think), 2M/440
magmount in the centre of the roof - looks very much like a cellular
antenna.. It clears 95% of the garages and bends a bit for the rest. The
large ground-plane nicely makes up for the short length - when I switch to a
36" model, the signal difference is not too great as in most cases I operate
within 25 miles of my repeaters. I switch to the longer antenna on the
highway trips.

The coax runs across the roof rack to the left side (tie-wrapped) and
follows the roof channel via the door rubber molding to the front driver's
door and under the dash. No leaks, works well and easy to change antennas.

Good luck..... Al

I realize this is a common thread but I have actually looked through the
suggestions and still am unsure of what to get. I am getting an ic2100

mobile
and want to put it in my mini-van. . .well . . .my wife's mini-van. It is

the
vehicle we do the most traveling in. Rs sells a magmount scanner/2m

antenna.
She really does not want that. She shops a lot and goes into parking

garages
so it needs to hide or fold like the larsens. I have been told NO holes

in the
vehicle. what is my recourse for this conundrum? Oh, and the final

kicker,
can it be done for under 50 bucks?

Thanks

Greg
