Damn, I knew I was missing something - no lap... grin
It is also worthwhile looking for signs of corrosion/water ingress etc and wriggling the plug/connection as you use the Richard method. Stray bits of wire can reach out and ruin your apparent resistance. (Which we know of course is useless...) (Apologies for using your post so flagrantly Richard...)
