If you figure a ballpark cost for an engineer to a company is ~$100/hour, I
can find you a lot of engineers where it'd be cheaper overall to buy it than
to have them build it... :-)

That's the usual problem with these comparisons -- people don't include the
value of their time! Now if you were in China...
