Default 20 and meter yagi question...

Can a 20 meter yagi be tuned down to 10 meters? can a 40 meter yagi be
tuned down to 10?

Thanks,

yes, and yes.... would they work like a yagi designed for those bands, most
likely not.

Take them apart, recut the elements to 10M and reassemble with 10M spacing.
Lots of luck

And don't forget that a new gamma match must be calculated. See
http://www.ve3sqb.com/ and search "gamma" on the page for his antenna
design program "Gamma".

Yeah, most of have explored those "ballpark" equations/formulas for
gamma matches. I even translated one from the basic language to C.

In the end, it is "cut and match."

Can a 20 or 40 meter antenna be used to transmit on different bands?
Yes. It depends on how you mean that, though. Either can be 'cut
down' for use on higher frequencies, or 'trapped' and used on lower
ones (so some ridiculous point). If you mean used as a directional
antenna as they work on their design bands, then no, they won't work
that way without that physical modification. There may be some
'directionality' to it, but not like they are supposed to be (that
make sense?). It can work, but not 'well'.

Don't mess up a good 20-meter beam.
And that 40-meter yagi must be huge! If its working, I wouldn't want to mess
with it, either.
You can make a 10-meter beam easy enough.
I could replace my pickup's hemi with a lawn-mower engine, but then how
would I cut the grass?
