Here is a transmission line simulation of half of a
dipole in free space. The resistivity of the wire has
been adjusted to simulate radiation loss resulting in
a feedpoint impedance of 35 ohms.

If the line is terminated in its Z0 impedance of
approximately 620 ohms, the current distribution
clearly shows the forward current including phase
shift.
