In the space are free electrons (plasma). If you move one of them the next reacts on it. It is normal pressure wave (electric wave). If you are correct, the feedpoint impedance of a 1/2WL standing-wave dipole should change from 75 ohms to around 600 ohms (traveling wave antenna) when installed in free space.
