Hello,
Two questions, please: a. Is there some way to tell if a USB cable is USB 2, or if it is an older version ? Some symbol on it, perhaps ? What about for USB 3 ? Is USB downward compatible for USB usages ? b. Any recommendations for an indoor antenna for HF (30 MHz) that would be omni-directional, and really small in size ? Would like to have something reasonably sensitive that might fit on a desktop, or on top of the radio itself. Would it have to be an active-antenna to meet this criterian ? Thanks, Bob |

Thanks, Bob small hf receivers come with a simple extend able whip and an internal ferrite stick for the real low bands... this is adequate if you are just swling and stuff like that. a separate active antenna would give you more flexibility in case the spot where the radio is has too much noise from being near a computer or tv or something like that. dropping a wire out a window or even running it around the frame of a window is also a way to hide a bigger antenna. for the most part when you are inside like that you are going to be more limited by local noise than signal strength on just about any antenna. |

Thanks, Bob Re USB: So far, I've had few issues intermixing USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices. The one exception: my old Win-98 laptop doesn't like large thumbdrives. Maybe it doesn't understand them; they're supposed to be driverless but the laptop asks for the driver, anyway. New laptop, no problems. I have several brands of USB 1.1 and 2.0 memory modules which work fine on either my old or new computers, with a transfer speed difference, of course. I have a couple of USB hubs and they seem to work fine, too. One computer does warn if I'm using a high speed device on a low speed port, but it goes ahead and works as soon as I close the warning.
