Default MFJ 949E help needed

Since the topic of transmatches came up, I have a problem with the one I bought about 6 months ago.

It reads backwards.

I can't really say if it is measuring right, all I can say is that I took the 1N34A diodes out and put new 1N34A diodes back in and they are not fried - I left enough lead on it to be able to measure them with a ohm meter and they show power in one direction only.

There is no way to mix up the wires going to the meter because they are color coded and cut to length.
I called MFJ last week and they said to send it in - sounded to them as if one of the diodes was no good.

I can't find anything else wrong with the board.
First quote for parts was $26 for a fully populated board and $26.00 for a new meter and $6.00 for shipping.
I left it go too long and now they want $56 for a fully populated board and I don't know how much for a new meter.

Any help would be appreciated.
