Anyone familiar with these full length roof vents on newer houses and
re-roofs? Are they metal or plastic?

My roof vents are metal. But there are so many other things like electrical
wiring, metal air ducts, cable TV lines, ect in the attic that wire vents are
just one more thing in the hidden antenna pattern (what pattern)...

An outside antenna seems unlikely as it is a newer subdivision

Depends. Lots of ways to hide em. My roof peaks at about 30'. One of my antennas
is made of enamel coated magnet wire that is virtually invisible when laying on
top of my red tile roof.

or a peak of the roof, indoor dipole.

They work too. I also use Hamstick dipoles in my garage attic. There is no
reason why you shouldn't enjoy your hobby even in a HOA restricted area. I do.
In fact my neighbors have yet to figure out I am a ham, which makes it nicer
than my old place where I got blamed for everything...
