The worst part of it is that I suspect it is being perpetrated by a ham radio operator. |

It looks like someone just got a list of model numbers from various sites and put it together, without understanding what they were. That's what tipped me off and why I started investigating. I sincerely doubt it is a ham. A ham would have a better idea of what's being listed. And it didn't take long to find a posting by the REAL holder of the call sign at 5:30 this morning. -- ================== Remove the "x" from my email address Jerry, AI0K ================== |

The worst part of it is that I suspect it is being perpetrated by a ham radio operator. It must be someone very slick too. Looking at their headers an odd feature pops up. Copy and pasted below, notice the "X-Complaints-To: " field. I feel the field was edited because the poster supposedly has giganews as their provider, but complaints aren't directed there as they should. I checked "www.newsgroupbanter.com" out and it's a new domain name that the page I got says was just registered, but has no further information. Interesting. I think an email to giganews might be in order. Can you, (or anyone else here) confirm that K9CPU is indeed alive and well? An how was it confirmed? I ask before I submit an email report to Giganews regarding this post. I looked K9CPU up in QRZ but there is no email address listed unfortunately, so I can't contact him directly. A Yahoo search didn't come up with anything helpful either. If this is a scam, it is obviously illegal and needs to be reported, but if real, I don't want to add to a bad situation. Bob KB2ZGN |

However, if you Google for the email address, or search the various Google groups for the email address, you'll find the identical message posted to at least 63 newsgroups and facebook pages: https://www.google.com/search?q=hamk9cpu%40yahoo.com&num=50&filter=0&biw= 1309&bih=857 The call sign has also been used to create logins on various ham related sites. For example: http://www.4x4ham.com/showthread.php?3425-Welcome-K9CPU I think that would be sufficient evidence that it's a scam. -- Jeff Liebermann 150 Felker St #D http://www.LearnByDestroying.com Santa Cruz CA 95060 http://802.11junk.com Skype: JeffLiebermann AE6KS 831-336-2558 |

I checked his license, and found a post by him on his company's blog about 5:30 that morning. And it was not like his is a common name. If you want to know for sure, get his info from the FCC database and give him a call. But it won't make any difference if you submit a report to giganews or not. They don't care. -- ================== Remove the "x" from my email address Jerry, AI0K ================== |
