You may have missed what rec.radio.amateur.antenna was like before he arrived. There were a fair collection of very knowledgeable experts present, that were able to answer most questions. There were also very interesting discussions, on such things as fractal antennas and modeling. I was involved with several people reverse engineering an MFJ-1800 antenna. I won't claim to be anywhere near as knowledgeable as these people. I read, I learned, I tried to answer a few questions, and I made a fool of myself displaying my ignorance in a few areas. Today, these people are gone or hiding. Nothing of any technical interest has appeared for many months. We are now blessed with discussions of quantum physics, which have no relevance to antenna design. We are deluged with stupid questions by Gareth which rapidly morph into discussions about the details of Gareth's perceived persecutions. I have yet to see any calculations or real antennas. https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!activity/rec.radio.amateur.antenna/xnXlqNH1MAAJ I just hate to see graffiti on a wall, garbage in the streets, and Gareth in this newsgroup. Staying quiet hasn't worked, so I decided it was worth one last try, which apparently has failed. Yes, I became part of the problem, but I think it was worth the risk. Too bad it didn't work. I'm not sure what to next. I'll probably just resort to selectively reading posts by those that I know are knowledgeable and have something to offer. I also have a real live genuine antenna problem that I can't solve. I'm not ready to post it yet, but soon. What is the best way to handle this? Ignore him... no? I don't know. Neither shoving a mirror in his face or ignoring him seems to be working. My current solution is to simply add a filter to Forte Agent newsreader, that reduces the number of acceptable cross posted newsgroups from my current 3 to 1 for this group. Since Gareth likes a large and unwilling audience for dramas, that should drop any threads he originates. http://www.forteinc.com/agent/faq.php#BAF8BFCB74FE9B17852571C0000D3065 No follow ups please. Can I suggest people remove the moderation group when responding to
this thread. One of Evans' ploys is to crosspost to unrelated groups to spread his poison. No point in helping him. |

Once again, Brian, M3OSN, Old Chum, your post is nobbut a vehicle for you to vent your spleen in confabulated and false personal attacks. Why do you behave like that, in the manner of a 5-year-old in the kindergarten playground? Perhaps you failed to notice that my OP in this thread was very much to criticise you in person for the very reason that you illustrate above? Have you nothing of relevance to these NG to contribute? |

Becoming part of the problem is much easier than finding a solution. Actually, it's also my commentary on the Twitter Generation, where most communications is in the form of one liners. Usually its a statement of position, lacking only in the background, logic, details, and commentary that would it interesting. That's one reason why I haven't abandoned Usenet. It's 100% content. Everyone has a right to an opinion. However, I'm more interested in the background, logic, details, rationalizations, references, examples and substantiations. None of that can be delivered on one line. I'm disappointed that you didn't read my longish rant. It was specifically scribbled to answer your question. I figured I owed you that since I bailed out of more than one discussion, unable to answer your questions. Debt discharged so now I can be my normal evil self. Drivel: I spent yesterday replacing phone wiring under a customers house. I thought I was too old for this kind of work. I was right. -- Jeff Liebermann 150 Felker St #D http://www.LearnByDestroying.com Santa Cruz CA 95060 http://802.11junk.com Skype: JeffLiebermann AE6KS 831-336-2558 |

Drivel: I spent yesterday replacing phone wiring under a customers house. I thought I was too old for this kind of work. I was right. Before I read a long post I skim it. I saw this at the bottom... "No follow ups please. It's not worth the effort." I wasn't going to post at all, then I thought I should try funny. I guess funny didn't work. Sorry. As to your wiring, I climbed a ladder to install a bracket to hold the WISP antenna. As I was getting down I stepped off one step too soon. With my bad hip I was lucky I didn't fall, but the sudden lurch was not a happy event. Yes, getting old is a PITA. But it's just a PITA. As to your long post, I read it. As to the details of dealing with the troll type, there is little any one person can do. Because the original troll is not the problem. The problem are all of the other trolls who's egos and ids refuse to let them resist the urge to respond. I am guilty as well. I have criticized, rationalized and even justified. But anything I do is swamped by the actions of many others... just as your actions are swamped. It's pointless to do anything or to worry about it. Those are the facts. -- Rick |
