Default Making off to aluminium?

I intend to use the 2" aluminium pole that in recent years has held
the 2m colinear aloft for its original purpose
which is as a GP for 20m (cut to 16'6" over 10 years ago;
never put off till tomorrow what you can put off till the day after :-) )

What's the best way to make off to aluminium; to score it and impress a
star washer before oxidation occurs, so as to transfer the point of
conduction
onto another metal?
