Is there such an animal? I am going to use this rig totally portable
(beach, backyard, woods, open field) and would like to make or purchase a
tuned vertical for thirty. I will be using it with an oak hills portable
cw rig. What do you think?

go to rat shack and buy a couple 25' rolls of hookup wire, put one vertical
and the others horizontal. hook the vertical one to the center of the coax
and the horizontal ones to the shield.... voila, instant vertical... trim to
make rig happier as needed.

upright? Also, should I trim the vertical or the horizontals for swr?

use whatever you can to hold it up. throw a rope over a tree branch, run it
to the peak of your house, whatever you have tall enough... don't have
anything tall enough? stand up as much pvc as you can keep upright (25'
probably won't stand up, but 10-12' might) and spiral the wire up the pipe.

trim the vertical wire for swr... though trimming the horizontal ones to the
same length may also help, especially if they are elevated above ground. if
they are sitting on the ground then trimming them will probably only have a
small effect.

A vertical wire about 23' to 24' high will give you a 1/4 wave
vertical antenna for 30 meters. Add several radial wires of the same
length to spead on the ground, and you should be good to go. Feed with
coax.

The vertical wire might have a rope and a small weight on the free
end, to hang the wire from any handy limb.

I use a K1, Norcal 40A, or DSW II on 20m when I hit the outdoors.

This antenna covers 10 - 160 if you follow the intsructions. I'm making
mine for 15-40
