MP-1 manual version is what I use.
BTW a fellow islander KK9TT has had similar success with his. I worked him
with his MP-1
sticking out of the hotel window in Honolulu with an S7 signal in FL on 20m.
We both never leave without our MP-1 and the IC706 on trips. Great small
package. Mine fits together with 115/230 power supply and key/cables/plugs
into a PC case. Never had problems in customs or security checks.
Good luck and DX

Steve,
I use one on my SUV - also used it on a long trip thru South America with
great success.
Recommend you tie a fishing line to it when driving fast on highways.
For stationary use I use the new MFJ 12 foot telescopic top in lieu of
the
supplied one - it really improves the signal on 20, 30 and 40m. The coil
oxidizes after a few
months - at least in my climate. Toothpaste will clean it up quickly.
Good
antenna.

How
does it weather? thanks for any info...Steve/N$PKJ
