Default AH-4 vs. AT-180 w/resonant antenna

Hi OM's,
For the IC-706 MkIIG, Icom makes two separate tuners, the AH-4 and the
AT-180.
FYI: I run the MkIIG and AT-180 to feed a Comet UHV-6 and the setup is fine.
My curiosity is this. If the AH-4 will tune a non-resonant antenna
system, why then wouldn't I prefer it over the AT-180 which is used with a
resonant antenna. Couldn't I use the AH-4 with an antenna whether it was
resonant or not? Or, is there added benefit of the AT-180?
