Right. I personally would only use such a rig under special situations
(i.e., the thing only goes on for a weekend or something.) Everyday
use is asking for trouble.

Mobile installations have their own challenges. I'd probably live with
the trade-offs and put a big old whip from front bumper to the back.
One should be able to use various tricks to electronically lengthen or
shorten the whip to tune to the range you want, right?
