Default Which Brand "Best" For Lightning Arrestor ?

Hello:

Anyone have any strong opinions regarding PolyPhaser, ICE, and Alpha Delta
Lightning Arresters ?

Would be for a receive only antenna.

Do I want the dc blocked variety, or doesn't it matter for receive only (0.5
to 30 MHz) ?

Thanks,
Bob

Most lightning energy is in the 0.5 to 30.0 MHz portion of the spectrum!!!

Polyphasor stands out as a company that tests and evaluates their
products with EMP lab testing and actual lightning strikes, not sure
about the other brands. I’ve visited many commercial mountain top
repeater sites and Polyphasor is the only brand that seems to be used.
The only complaint I've heard is the VSWR may not be as advertised in
the VHF and higher range. Unless you need to power something via the
coax, use a DC blocked unit. I don’t think a DC pass arrestor can roll
off energy in the HF range to adequately protect your radio. The
arrestor needs to be placed at the cable entry point to your house/shack
and well grounded to do its job. You might want to read Polyphasor’s
book that will help you design a system that will have a chance of
surviving a lightning strike. A poorly design system is probably worse
than no arrestor due to the false sense of security it may give you.
I have absolutely no connection with Polyphasor, bla, bla bla.
