I was wondering what is the highest gain hf antenna thats operational
anywhere in the world? Secondly what is the gain.

Peter

as others have noted: Arecibo, HAARP, SW curtain arrays.

for 20 meters, there have been 48 element Yagi stacks.

i'm not aware of any amateur curtain arrays, but several people have modeled
these before. you need tall towers, obviously. see the cebik site if you
are interested in how curtains work.

it would be pretty easy to set a record for ham HF gain using Yagis,
rhombics, or curtain array. whether you'd get good performance and a
useable beamwidth is another matter.
