Look at the crimp pins used on the Amphenol Series 96 connectors and see if you can't make some of those work. There are a wide variety of sizes and they are very reliable. They get used for all kinds of things. If that doesn't do it, try the Concord catalogue. I think I saw some machined pin sockets in there.
