Default Triplett 850 battery ?

Thats good to know, thanks for the post, I suspected that but wasn't
sure. The AA aint going nowhere, its so tight and a bit of paper
cushion insures that.

Check these specs out. Looks like a modern AA will way outperform an
old 935 carbon zinc C cell hands down. Just wrap your AA alkaline in
paper or cardboard, wrap in electrical tape or spend the money for
heat shrink and go for it.

References:
old C cell (1800mah) http://data.energizer.com/PDFs/935.pdf
New AA cell Page 9 (2850 mah)

Good luck.

........I wasn't able to force a C in but I did get an AA
in and it works fine. And now I have a manual thanks to Anon at
Bama..............

According to manual at Bama site,
ftp://bama.sbc.edu/downloads/triplett/850/850.pdf

it's an Eveready #935 or Burgess #1 (see pg. 4)..........

Hint: Within last couple of years in a dollar store saw some adapters
that would allow you to fit an AA into the same space as a a C, a C
into a D space etc. Set of three for a few bucks IIRC.
Don't know whether these would do the job being discussed here? But I
should have bought them!

I've seen charger kits that come with those, presumably they are
getting enough power into a the AA NIMHs that they only reason they
can't be used in things that require "C" and "D" cells is their size.
