Here is the HB-3 entry:

http://www.pmillett.com/tubedata/HB-...art_2/6KD6.PDF

It's another one of those damn TV sweep tubes, which folks have pressed
into RF service. They are nearly unobtainable because the bootleg CB
guys have blown so many of them up.

There is no drop-in replacement, although I have seen equipment designed
for use with sweep tubes modified to take 6146s. The Svetlana EL-509
is probably as close as it comes and it will take some modification to
make those work in most circuits.

Which is really too bad, because they made super pass tubes in regulated
supplies and good HiFi outputs when trioded. Not to mention insane power
in PP pentode as a geetah head :-)

When I was a kid, everybody was converting military and commercial surplus
radios over to use sweep tubes instead of expensive transmitting tubes.

These days, everyone is converting ham rigs intended for sweep tubes over
to use transmitting tubes, because sweep tubes are so expensive.

The 6MH6 has an equivalent base pinout, so it should be usable, although
they are not common.

You can build an adapter to change the pinout to a more conventional tube
for testing. Tube testers can be tricked quite easily.

If the tube is being used in a transmitter, it is not that difficult to
change to a different type of final tube - including the 6146. If it is
used in a grounded grid amp, the grids are all tied together, so you should
be able to find a substitute and change a few pins on the amp.

Hams are supposed to be good at improvising.
