There are some workarounds for the missing 1L6. A guy over on
rec.antiques.radio+phono makes an adaptor to use the older loctal tube, and
there's a sub for the 1L6 if you just want it to make some sounds...although
the sub (can't remember the #, someone will chime in with it) doesn't have
very good h.f. performance.

Many good resources on the web, in case you're not already aware of them. A
good place to start is he http://trans-oceanic.fortunecity.net/index.html

Wanna double your investment? :)

What are you saying Barry? It's worth $6.00 {?} ;-P

Yeah, I'd give you $6 for it! :)
Sounds like you're going to have some fun with it. I'm finishing up a
restoration on a Zenith Transoceanic H-500. Stripped and recovered the

cabinet
and am working on getting the electronics done. Unfortunately, this one

didn't
have the expensive 1L6 that it really needs to work properly.

Have fun,

Barry - N4BUQ

It's the 1R5. If you sub it into a Trans-O, the top SW band or two (like 17
MHz and 15) might not work at all, but down on the AM BC band you probably
won't see much difference. So get a 1R5 and try the set. --Mike K.

WOW Mike, that's great to hear. I wonder though if it'll rival the P-780,
now THAT would be something. :-) Thanks Mike!

Say, what is the GE P-780? Is that like a Superradio, or something nicer, with
SW?
Tnx, Mike K.

Told ya'! Thanks, Bill. I had a mental block....

Fortunately, my three TO knockoffs (RCA 3-BX-671 & 7-BX-10, Halli' TW-1000)
all have good(?) 1L6's. The adaptor won't fit in any of them. I think I'll
post a 'want' for a 1R5 for everyday use (he http://hurtle.com/tubes/ )
and save the 1L6's for SW listening only.

N4BUQ October 25th 03 03:27 AM

Yeah, my radio has the 1R5. I want to get a 1L6 to properly check out all the
functionalities as well as a proper alignment.

Thanks again,

Barry - N4BUQ
