Default Problem with Kenwood Twins

Greetings,

I wonder if anyone has had any experience with repairing the Kenwood
R/T 599 twins. Mine have ceased to function in transceive mode. I get
no receive using the TX VFO and no transmit using the RX VFO. The units
function separately fine, and the relays all work in transceive mode.
I've checked the crossover cable for breaks and shorts. At this point
it looks like something non-trivial. My hope is that someone has worked
on these things before and has an idea or two they could share.

Many thanks

About all it could be is the cable in between. The connections are rather
tight and hard keep connected. The coaxial cable is what is linking the
signal. Look over very closely. You will see that it may have come
unsoldered. It is RG-174 coax. quite small.

I have a service manual. If you need other help drop me a e-mail. You
will be bounced. But I check the SPAM filter daily and I'll find you there
and we can get in contact.

Sounds like some basic troubleshooting is in order:

1. Get schematics
2. Do a voltage check on power supplies to make sure they are in order.
3. Borrow a scope and track down where the VFO signals are disappearing.
(the problem could be as simple as a dirty relay contacts).
