I have a very nice NC 183D works perfect but for one reason.
No AGC.. I must ride the RF gain to insure the receiver will not overload
on AM signals. The person I purchased it from said all caps had been
changed . I have not looked inside yet but if anyone can give me any advice
on how to fix this I would appreciate the info.
ISTR my 173, which is the junior version but quite similar in tube lineup, uses
a separate IF stage to drive the AGC detector. If that tube is bad, or the
stage weak, you won't be getting AGC. Also, someone may have misaligned that
stage -- it's funny to align it, because the signal in the speaker gets weaker
as you peak the AGC driver.
BTW, anyone notice how *linear* the dials are on these Nationals? Check out
the BC band. 73 es gud luck, Mike K.
