Default HW-101 VFO dial tracking accuracy

I can get the VFO dial to be right on at both ends but up to 5khz (one
division) off at mid dial
or right from 0 to 400 and 5k off at the 500 end.
I found a reccomendation about the using the lower coil peak point and it
makes no difference.
How much dial accuracy can I expect fron this thing?
Any idea what to try to make it better?

Another question
I'm not sure whether to adjust the points for zero beat or peak meter
deflection.

You want to use the zero beat. Max meter deflection will be up/down
from zero beat depending on mode.

The Zero Set control on the front panel is to 'tweak' the calibration
across the band where it may not line up perfectly. Utilizing it at
100kc points you should be able to get the calibration "as good as you
can interpolate" on the dial.

I've restored many HW-100s and HW-101s over the years.
The linearity is not all that great. If you're only
off by 5 KHz at the "500" end, that's fine. Use the
crystal calibrator and dial correction to line it up
when you're in that end of the band.

It took a *lot* of back and forth with the 2 capactor adjustments, but
I got my HW-101 to 1 kHz accuracy at both ends, and no worse than that
over the 500kHz range
