Or for that matter, with a piece of paper someone typed the frequency on, and then taped to the crystal with a clear tape. I realize that's likely from the end user, but that sort of thing sure seemed more common than the thing being looked for, which I can only vaguely picture in my mind. I have a box full of FT243 xtals, but with the exception of a few that were reworked by companies like JAN, or texas xtals, they all have the original military bakelite, or metal covers.
