CKUL Halifax Flips To Hot AC Mix 96.5

Newcap has flipped Adult Alternative Radio 96.5 CKUL-FM Halifax to Hot AC
Mix 96.5. Positioned as The 90s To Now, the company is considering the
shift an evolution of the prior brand as opposed to an outright flip. The
stations Facebook page shouts it with an image proclaiming Yup, The Music
Is Better Now. Dan Barton, who formerly programmed crosstown CHR Z103.5
(now Hot Country 103.5) CKHZ, joined Newcap earlier this month to program
CKUL.

Robin Hood Radio Walks Away From WGHQ Lease

Posted: 25 Feb 2016 10:24 AM PST
https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...om-wghq-lease/

The group that calls itself The Smallest NPR Station In The Nation is
walking away from its LMA of 920 WGHQ Kingston NY after Pamal Broadcasting
failed to follow through with its agreement to donate the station.
Tri-State Public Communications, operators of Robin Hood Radio began
operating WGHQ in December 2013 via LMA with the understanding that Pamal
would soon file to donate the station to them to prevent WGHQ from going
dark. After operating the station for over two years at $2000 per month
with no agreement finalized, Tri-State notified Pamal that it will cease
leasing the station after February 29. Outside of the brokered Kingston
Community Radio that airs on WGHQ from 7-9am daily, the station will flip
back to a simulcast of 1260 WBNR Beacon/1420 WLNA Peekskill, who now carry
a Classic Country format. Robin Hood Radio will continue to be heard on
1020 WHDD Sharon CT, 88.1 WLHV Annandale-On-Hudson NY, 91.7 WBSL-FM
Sheffield MA, and 91.9 WHDD-FM Sharon CT. Owner Marshall Miles released the
following statement regarding the move: February 29, 2016 will be the last
day of Robin Hood Radio broadcasting on WGHQ AM 920, Kingston,NY On
December 31, 2014 Tri-State Public Communicatons, Inc entered into a
contract with Pamal Broadcasting to begin the process of donating WGHQ AM
920 to Tri-State Public Communications. All paperwork was completed by
midnight on December 31 to keep WGHQ on-air with a Lease Management
Agreement with Tri-State Public Communicatons leasing WGHQ for $2,000.00 a
month until the donation of the license was completed. This allowed
Kingston Community Radio to keep broadcasting on-air. As part of that Lease
Management Agreement, Pamal and Tri-State were to sign an asset purchase
agreement for $1.00 and have the license for WGHQ donated to Tri-State
Public Communications. Over the next two and a half years, Tri-State sent
three different asset purchased agreements to Pamal, but never was able to
reach a signed contract for the donation of WGHQ from Pamal. As a matter of
fact, Tri-State had not heard anything from Pamal on the donation for the
last half of 2015, and the first two months of 2016. In February of this
year, it was decided by Tri-States board of directors to notify Pamal, and
Kingston Community Radio of our decision to withdraw from an agreement that
was never fulfilled by Pamal. We can no longer justify spending almost
$25,000 a year with no donation of the WGHQ license taking place as was
outlined in the initial agreement. We are glad we could step in and keep
Kingston Community Radio on-air over the past two years plus, and exit
knowing that Kingston Community Radio will stay on-air on WGHQ from 7-9 AM
with Pamal broadcasting on of their broadcast signals the rest of the time.
If our friends would like to keep listening to Robin Hood Radio in the
Hudson Valley, you may do so on WLHV FM 88.1 Annandle-on-Hudson. We thank
you for your support, comments and suggestions over the past couple of
years.

Houston Public Media Sells 91.7 KUHA To KSBJ

Posted: 24 Feb 2016 02:14 PM PST
https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...-kuha-to-ksbj/

KSBJ Educational Foundation will pay $10 million for KUHA and 91.3 K217GB
Houston. Original Report 2/24: Houston Public Media has announced it has
agreed to sell Classical 91.7 KUHA Houston to KSBJ Educational Foundation
for an undisclosed price. KSBJ will flip KUHA to its Christian CHR NGEN
Radio brand currently heard in the market on 89.3 KSBJ-HD2 and a small
network of stations serving the areas south and west of Houston. HPM, owned
by the University of Houston, put KUHA on the market in August of 2015 and
intends to keep the Classical programming on 88.7 KUHF-HD2 once the sale of
KUHA closes. In addition to KSBJ-HD2, the NGEN programming is currently
heard on 92.5 KWUP-HD2 Navasota/College Station, 89.5 KZBJ Bay City, 91.1
KYBJ Lake Jackson, 99.5 K258BZ Sugar Land and 99.7 KUBJ Brenham TX. Houston
Public Media purchased then KTRU from Rice University in 2010. KSBJ
Educational Foundation (KSBJ) and University of Houston System (UHS)
announced today that they have entered into a purchase agreement for KSBJ
to acquire KUHA-FM from UHS. KUHA-FM is a 50,000 watt non-commercial
station serving the Houston market area. The transaction requires Federal
Communications Commission approval which is expected later this spring.
KSBJ intends to use the newly acquired signal to broadcast sister station
NGEN radio, which would expand NGEN radios Houston-area reach with their
ministry. With numerous signals throughout the Gulf Coast Region, NGEN
radio has been reaching a younger generation with Christian hip-hop and pop
music for over five years. “This is a significant milestone for KSBJ. For
34 years, we have dreamed of having a full power FM station covering all of
Houston that reaches young people,” says Tim McDermott, president of KSBJ.
“We are so excited about having this and the impact for good it will have
on our city.” Currently KUHA-FM is licensed to the University of Houston
and operates as Houston Public Media’s Classical 91.7. Last August the
Board of Regents of the University of Houston approved the transition of
its continuous classical music programming to all-digital distribution in
recognition of the superior broadcast quality and greater efficiency of
digital broadcasting. Our commitment to multi-platform arts and culture
coverage is stronger than ever before as we are now incorporating online
video and television programming in addition to classical music for the
Houston community,“ said Lisa Shumate, associate vice president and general
manager of Houston Public Media where broadcast operations also include
News 88.7 (KUHF-FM), NPR in Houston and TV 8 (KUHT-TV) Houston PBS. “We’re
happy that the ownership of KUHA will stay in local hands with an
experienced broadcaster and look forward to working with KSBJ on a smooth
transition,” said Shumate. Shumate added that, since the announcement of
the transition last year, Houston Public Media has continued broadcasting
classical on KUHA-FM while educating listeners about this coming change and
how they can access the all-classical digital broadcast through a variety
of channels including 88.7 HD-2, Houston Public Media classical app,
streaming online at Houstonpublicmedia.org, free applications like
iHeartRadio and TuneIn, and via television at TV 8.5.
