93.1 The Party Las Vegas Gives Way To The Mountain

Posted: 26 Sep 2016 12:20 PM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...-in-las-vegas/

iHeartMedia flipped CHR 93.1 The Party KPLV Las Vegas to Variety Hits 93.1
The Mountain at noon today.

The format change restores the Variety Hits format to the market for the
third time. CBS operated 100.5 Jack-FM KKJJ from June 2005 through August
2010, while Beasley Media had 107.9 Bob-FM KVGS from October 2011 through
January 2015.

In a crowded CHR battle, KPLV ranked 20th in the market with a 2.0 share in
the August 2016 Nielsen Audio PPM ratings. The move to Variety Hits
positions the station closest to Beasleys market leading Classic Hits 96.3
KKLZ and Lotus second ranked Classic Rock 97.1 The Point KKPT.

As an aside, we reported last week that the 931TheMountain.com domain was
registered by Entercom for potential use at Country “93.1 The Wolf” WPAW-FM
Winston-Salem/Greensboro NC. Why would Entercom register a domain for
iHeartMedia? Entercom owns the national trademark for The Mountain for
radio use. A successful swerve to keep us off the actual scent.

https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...ffman-retires/

Cox Media Group has announced that Kim Guthrie will be promoted to
President upon the retirement of Bill Hoffman at the end of 2016.

Guthrie has been with Cox since 1998 and currently serves as EVP/National
Ad Platforms and President of Cox Reps. Prior to July 2015 Guthrie was EVP
of Cox Radio.

Cox Enterprises today announced that Kim Guthrie will be appointed
president of Cox Media Group, an integrated broadcasting, publishing and
digital media company. She will succeed Bill Hoffman who has announced he
will retire at the end of the year after a distinguished 38-year career in
media. Guthrie will assume the role on Jan. 1, 2017 and report to Cox
Enterprises Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Alex
Taylor.

Kim has been with Cox for nearly 20 years and is an inspirational leader
who has helped our media properties transform, said Cox Enterprises
President and Chief Executive Officer John Dyer. She played a key role in
the successful creation of Cox Media Group in 2008 and has been recognized
as one of the media industry’s most influential leaders. She is a natural
fit to ensure Cox Media Group continues to deliver innovative products and
compelling news content.”

Guthrie joined the company in 1998 and currently serves as Cox Media
Group’s executive vice president of national ad platforms and president of
Cox Reps, the country’s largest television advertising rep firm. She also
oversees Videa, which provides sales automation solutions designed to
simplify the buying and selling of television advertising.

She was previously responsible for all programming, operations and sales at
Cox’s 59 radio stations located in 11 markets. Under her leadership, the
stations won multiple honors for programming excellence and outstanding
community service, including several Marconi awards, Edward R. Murrow
awards, Crystal Awards, New York Air Awards and Gracie Awards.

Prior to Cox, Guthrie was a television news reporter and held various news,
sales and management positions in Minneapolis and Milwaukee.

She was elected to the National Association of Broadcasting board in 2014
and is a board member for the Metropolitan College of New York. She is a
multi-year honoree as Radio Ink magazine’s “Most Powerful People in Radio”
and “Most Influential Women in Radio.” She also was named a “Woman of
Distinction” by the March of Dimes and “Humanitarian of the Year” by the
Muscular Dystrophy Association. She received a degree in journalism from
Iowa State University.

Hoffman assumed the role of president in 2013. Under his leadership, Cox
Media Group launched Rare, one of the nation’s fastest-growing news sites
with 45 million monthly visits, and expanded into new niche content
vertical businesses. The company also grew its digital presence,
investigative journalism and content creation, as well as transformed the
way television advertising is bought and sold through the formation of
Videa.

He joined Cox in 1979 as an account executive with TeleRep in Detroit and
held a number of roles within the company, including vice president and
general manager of WFTV/WRDQ in Orlando and at WSB-TV in Atlanta. Before
assuming the role of president, he was Cox Media Group’s executive vice
president of broadcast where he oversaw the majority of the company’s radio
and television operations, as well as its corporate revenue efforts.

Hoffman’s board representation has included the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper,
American Rivers, BMI, the Associated Press, the National Association of
Broadcasters, the Broadcasters Foundation of America, and the ABC Board of
Governors, where he was a former Chairman.

“Bill has done a tremendous job leading Cox Media Group through a rapidly
evolving media environment,” said Dyer. “As a leader, he has always
embodied the spirit of our company. He’s inspired and valued employees,
anticipated and driven change and been a true community champion in every
city he’s lived. We are grateful for his leadership and dedication.”

https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...-philadelphia/

Radio-One is swapping frequencies for two of its Philadelphia formats on
Tuesday, September 26.

Gospel Praise 103.9 WPPZ-FM Jenkintown PA and Classic Hip-Hop Boom 107.9
WPHI-FM Pennsauken NJ will exchange locations in an attempt to boost
ratings for the struggling stations.

Both stations are Class A signals. 103.9 operates with 270w/339m from the
Roxborough Tower Farm, which will give the Classic Hip-Hop format a
stronger signal in the northern and western suburbs of the market. 107.9
operates with 780w/276m from the top of One Liberty Place in Center City.
WPHI registered a 1.7 share in the August 2016 Nielsen Audio PPM ratings
down from a 1.9 in July. WPPZ has been stagnant at a 1.6 share the past
three months.

https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...ips-to-sports/

Jet Broadcasting completed the revamp of its Johnson City TN properties as
103.9 WXIS Erwin/92.3 W222AG Johnson City flipped to News LiveWire Radio
103.9.

The station is cloning the news clock utilized by CBS Radios 880 WCBS New
York including Traffic Weather on the 8s and Sports at :15 and :45. The
station is utilizing content from CBS News, Bloomberg, and The Weather
Channel.

Original Report 9/12: Jet Broadcasting Rhythmic CHR Jamz 92.3/103.9 WXIS
Erwin/92.3 W222AG Johnson City TN has pulled the plug on its format and is
now stunting with a heartbeat.

WXIS and its translator cover the southern half of the Tri-Cities market
serving Bristol VA, Johnson City, and Kingsport TN. The flip leaves Bristol
Broadcastings Electric 94.9 WAEZ Greeneville as the only CHR in the market.

The stunting at WXIS comes a week after sister Classic Country 1420 The
Legend WEMB Erwin flipped to Sports NBC Sports Tri-Cities. WEMB is carrying
a local show from 12-2pm hosted by Marky Billson.
