EMF To Acquire KUSP Santa Cruz

The bankruptcy trustee for Pataphysical Broadcastings former AAA 88.9 KUSP
Santa Cruz CA and its four translators has agreed to sell the station to
Educational Media Foundation for $605,000.

KUSP went dark at the end of July and then filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy
to begin to pay off creditors. Current.org reports that EMF won the bidding
earlier this week with its $605,000 bid over KCRW Los Angeless $600,000 bid
that will be a backup bid should EMFs acquisition not be approved by the
FCC. A third local group, Media Watch/Central Coast Community Radio also
submitted a bid.

EMF operates multiple signals already in the Monterey/Salinas/Santa Cruz
market. The companys 90.7 KSRI Santa Cruz and 93.5 K228FD Monterey carry
the Christian CHR Air 1 network, while Christian AC K-Love is on multiple
stations. EMF recently closed on the acquisition of 97.9 KLXY Salinas
(formerly Country KYZZ) from Mount Wilson FM Broadcasters, while the
network also airs on Prunedale Education Associations 89.7 KLVM Prunedale
and translators in Monterey and Soledad.

The Christmas Music Blitz Begins

While there were a few early stragglers to Christmas Music this year
(starting with 1220/98.1 KOMC Branson MO on October 1), all of them were
stations preparing to debut new formats or brand new signals signing on for
the first time.

Today we had the first stations to make their annual move to the format:
SummitMedia Soft AC Easy 102.1 1320 WENN/W271BN Birmingham AL, iHeartMedia
AC 105.3 My-FM 1270 WTLY/105.3 W287CO Tallahassee FL, and iHeartMedia
Classic Country 96.1 The Legend W241AF/WUSY-HD2 Chattanooga TN. While
theres usually a group of stations to flip to Christmas music in October,
most of the seasonal flips will take place once the calendar switches to
November next week.

INSTANT INSIGHT: In past years weve created a list of stations on the
RadioInsight Community that have flipped to All-Christmas, but now that
were fifteen years in to this going from a fad to a tradition it is very
predictable when most stations will flip to Christmas music for the holiday
season. We will still track those stations that blow up their existing
branding and using the holiday music as a lead-in to something new for 2017.
