1250 is one of a few stations using their COL as calls - Ware,

Massachusetts.

Well, I think WINC (Winchester, VA) should at least get an honorable
mention. g

If that gets mentioned, then KERN, Bakersfield (Kern County) should
probably be mentioned, too.

Would WRAL FM/TV (Raleigh NC) count?
WNYC-FM New York?

There was an urban-formatted WRAP in Virginia some years back. Makes me
wonder if there was a KRAP somewhere out west.

Did the FCC ever inadvertently assign call letters that turned out to be
risque somehow? There was a KOME in California for a while. Farmville
NC had WFAG on 1250 through the 60s and 70s. Havelock NC presently
has a WANG on 105.1. Any others?

I am typing this from the production studio of WCUM, Bridgeport, CT. The call
letters refer to the Spanish word CUMBRE, translated to English is SUMMIT.

There used to be a KCOK (K-COK) in Tulare, CA but the calls were
changed years ago. IIRC it's the station that's now KJUG (K-JUG), but
the logo is a moonshine jug, not a Dolly Parton jug g.

Ahhhhh yes. Good ol' Radio Cumbre. Every time I'm rolling through
Connecticut I make sure to tune it in. Good music and the deejays on
the weekend are lively without being obnoxious like the ones on New
York's Mega 97.9! :-)

Not currently on the FCC lists, but a sort of related call with a history of
its own is. There's a WKRP-LP (TV) licensed to Washington DC. W-KRaP?
Wonder if the TV show producers saw it that way. Why anyone with a real
station would WANT those calls is also a different matter.

Who has KCUF?

There was a WKRP-AM in Atlanta for a short time in the 70's, designed
specifically to cash in on the TV show's popularity. The stars of the
show were invited to appear on the station's first day of broadcasting
but none showed. The FCC denied the calls until someone pointed out
that MTM Productions was not an actual licensee.
The first record played on the new station came up at the wrong speed.
Potential advertisers thought it was a joke. It was a daytime- only
station with all sorts of signal problems. As I recall, it lasted less
than a year.
