87.9 - now there's more than one!
http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w... fac_num=83363
(read the exhibits, down at the bottom) In a nutshell... 87.9MHz is a valid FM channel, but only for Class D stations and only under VERY limited circumstances. So far, a 10-watt high-school station in California is the only one to qualify for this frequency. Until last week. K201DR, a translator on 88.1 in Sun Valley, Nevada, got displaced by a new full-power station on 88.3. The full-power station and another translator precluded moving to any other frequency with a minor change. Major changes are under freeze, and if the freeze isn't lifted within 12 months the K201DR license will be revoked. K201DR argues that 87.9 is the only frequency available to them -- that they're a Class D station (they're so listed in the FCC Database) -- and that they won't interfere with any other station. (terrain shielding from KVIE-TV channel 6) FCC buys it, grants a CP, and assigns new call letters K200AA. http://www.fcc.gov/Bureaus/MB/Public...s/ac040223.txt , again scroll to the bottom -- Doug Smith W9WI Pleasant View (Nashville), TN EM66 http://www.w9wi.com |

Odd question but does anyone know if KLME - 88.1 Battle Mountain Nevada High school FM is still in operation? There is no KLME in the FCC DB (just a KLME-LP which is in New Mexico) and the only stations licensed to Battle Mountain, Nevada are translators. -- Doug Smith W9WI Pleasant View (Nashville), TN EM66 http://www.w9wi.com |

Thanks for reply A bit of ancient history - In 1974, KLME-FM, 88.1 went on air as the first high school owned and operated FM stereo station in the state of Nevada from Battle Mountain High School - 10 watt studio and transmitter in High School. From about 12 noon till 4 PM - reel tape easy listening was played from about 4 - 9 PM students programed in 1 hour shifts from about 9 - 12 - reel tape rock Student DJ's went to San Francisco to take 3rd class FCC license test Wonder what happened to all of those LP's and 45's not to mention reel tapes. -- Doug Smith W9WI Pleasant View (Nashville), TN EM66 http://www.w9wi.com |
