Is LPFM dead?
I was trying to reach FCC regarding next filing window, but was not
reach anyone in the appropriate department. I got an automated reply on my email saying that someone will get back to me within 20 days. Alas, it's been couple of months already and I do not keep my hopes high. All searches on the web return posts pointing to the previous filing windows, which was nearly two years ago. Since all the windows are less then a week each and are announced about a month in advance (with couple of years pauses), does it mean the Government just want it to die quietly? Any light shed on the issue will be highly appreciated. Thanks. |
The FCC is still haggling with the MX applications (where competing apps
have been filed in the same city for the same frequency) and is taking their sweet-assed time with those. We were supposed to get five windows of 100 watt stations, followed by five windows for 10 watt stations. It's been several years and we're not through the first five yet, even though the last filing period was months and months ago. A friend said you'll never see LPFM fully implemented under Powell's watch -- he has too many big radio corporate interests and is in bed with the NAB. Notice how IBOC got shoved down everyone's throats with lightning speed, yet LPFM just drags on and on and on ... IMHO, get the current Bozos out of the White House, then push for an LPFM friendly FCC appointment from John Kerry. |
