Default VBTC gets French assistance

Port Vila Presse Radio News - 29/10/04

By Radio Vanuatu
Posted Friday, October 29, 2004

Vt300,000 to the Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation (VBTC)
for a lease line between Port Vila and Luganville so that the national
radio may be received by the islands in the North. This agreement was
signed yesterday morning between the Charge d'Affairs of the French
Embassy Mr Bernard Sexe and VBTC General Manager Mr Jonas Cullwick.

Mr Cullwick said the lease of this line means that the signal of the
national radio can be rebroadcast through Halo FM in Luganville. With
the rebroadcast on Halo FM, the islands in the North will be able to
receive the national radio.

He stated that although there is a problem with the shortwave
transmitter, this is one of the means to improve broadcast to islands
in the North especially. The VBTC GM said an agreement has already been
sealed with TVL. The Board and Management for VBTC have expressed
gratitude towards the French Ambassador Mr Jean Garbe and to Mr Sexe
for the continued support by the French government. - Radio Vanuatu
