WHUR Launches The Quiet Storm Station

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/2...storm-station/

Howard University Adult RB 96.3 WHUR Washington DC has flipped its HD2
subchannel from World Music to “The Quiet Storm Station.”

Launching as WHUR prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2021, the
new subchannel and stream will turn WHURs longtime evening programming to a
near 24/7 format. The station will also carry WHURs Daily Drum Show
news/talk program from 7-8pm weeknights.

Known as the home of the “Original Quiet Storm,” 96.3 WHUR is rolling out a
new sister station with the iconic format that can now be heard morning,
noon, and night. Formally WHUR-World, 96.3HD2 is now “The Quiet Storm
Station.”

The Quiet Storm Station gives listeners the ability to hear their favorite
slow jams around-the-clock seven days a week. Programmed by WHUR Music and
Assistant Program Director Traci LaTrelle, the music on The Quiet Storm
Station holds true to the flavor originated on WHUR back in 1976 by the
late Melvin Lindsey.

“You will hear classic hits like ‘Old Friend’ by Phyllis Hyman to new
favorites from Kem. It’s the perfect blend of music to help you unwind or
to set the right romantic mood,” said LaTrelle. Occasionally, you will even
hear Lindsey’s satin voice between songs.

“We are deeply humbled and very excited over the opportunity for
Washingtonians and listeners beyond the DMV to hear the voice and music of
Melvin once again. The launch of this station ensures that Melvin’s legacy
will live on,” said the Lindsey family.

The Quiet Storm Station comes as heritage station 96.3 WHUR prepares to
celebrate its 50th Anniversary December 10, 2021. “What better way to
kick-off the road to our Golden Anniversary than to have in place a new
station with the Quiet Storm format that helped to put 96.3 WHUR on the
map,” said WHUR General Manager Sean Plater.

As a bonus, the station will also keep listeners informed and engaged
weeknights from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the award-winning news/talk “Daily
Drum Show,” hosted by veteran broadcaster Harold Fisher. Often copied by
urban stations around the globe, the true sound of the Quiet Storm can also
still be heard at its original home 96.3 WHUR with John Monds from 7:30
p.m. to midnight. The Quiet Storm Station is available now at 96.3HD2,
TheQuietStormStation.com, and on the Quiet Storm Station mobile app.

Maureen McGurren Departs WTMX's Eric In The Morning

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/2...n-the-morning/

After being missing from Eric In The Morning for the past several weeks,
Hubbard Hot AC 101.9 The Mix WTMX Skokie/Chicago has revealed that co-host
Maureen McGurren is departing the station after declining a contract
extension offered to her.

McGurren had been with WTMX for 22 years serving as a traffic reporter
until moving up to morning co-host following the departure of Kathy Hart in
2017. Hart too went missing from mornings for several weeks prior to making
her departure known.

The rest of the current Eric In The Morning staff led by host Eric Ferguson
and co-hosts Violeta Podrumedic, Brian Whip Paruch, and John Swany Swanson
will continue in mornings.

101.9fm THE MIX (WTMX) is sad to announce that after 22 years with the
station, Melissa McGurren was offered a contract extension which much to
our surprise she declined.

“Our plans for the future of ‘Eric in the Morning’ definitely included
Melissa,” said Jeff England, Vice President and Market Manager at Hubbard
Chicago, which owns and operates The Mix. “We were disappointed by her
decision not to renew her contract, but also know that this year has led
all of us to assess our lives in different ways. When she informed me of
her decision, she described her time at the station as ‘a privilege’ and
that feeling is completely mutual. We wish her the best.”

“Eric in the Morning” will continue with Eric Ferguson and the current
morning show team, including Violeta Podrumedic, Brian “Whip” Paruch, and
John “Swany” Swanson.
