Most of the fiberglass verticals, although they do work well, are horrible at decoupling the coax shield, and tend to radiate from the coax. This can be tamed by adding a few turns of coax at the feedpoint, but the angle of radiation will still be high. Another thing to consider is lightning. Having had several fiberglass antennas destroyed by lightning, I switched to the Maco, took another strike, and had NO damage to the antenna. The coax was another story, but that can be replaced easily. |
