Default Wilson T-5000 Antenna: 5 or 10" Shaft?

Of course, being as clueless as I am, I'm not even sure what the
"shaft" is, much less do I know which would be a better size for
installing on a 387 Peterbilt. I'm hoping to order one of these
tomorrow morning from RadioOutfitter.com, but I don't know which to get:
the 5 or 10" shaft model.

Any hints?

Thanks.

That "Shaft" is the section between the antenna mount, and the base of the
coil. This portion of the antenna isn't really part of the antenna (i.e.
doesn't transmit). Basically what this is for is to extend the antenna up
into the air, the object of which is, to get the _coil_ ABOVE the cab of the
truck to allow for a proper radiation pattern. The easiest way to decide is
to measure the distance from the antenna mount to the top of the cap
(straight up into the air, not towards the cab). Choose which ever will get
you above, or as close to above, the cabs roof, without overshooting too
much. A longer shaft = higher wind drag, so if you can get above with the
5" one, then don't bother with the 10".
