Default cobra 29 with sound tracker,,doesnt hear good,,schematic??

i have a few years old cobra 29 ltd st
with a few problems
im trying to fix them myself
as ive had some luck in repairing video games.....my other hobby
recently got the 29 upand running,,it had no sound
from external or internal speaker
turned out to be bad solder joints,,reflowed,,all is well
remaining problems
built in swr meter doesnt move on swr or cal setting,,,no movement at all
any ideas what to check,,wires are attached
meter works on rf
my biggest concern is its ears
it really hears for crap
i prefer not to use sound tracker feature
so with st off,,,and squelch out the noise
i hear folks right in front of me talking to folks i cant hear
granted i can hear them for a mile or so
but it irritates me that others are talking to folks i cant hear
unless i put up with the noise
if i dial back the rf gain to cut the noise
again i cant hear these folks
keep in mind,,they are breaking squelch on others radio's around me
it had this problem in the last truck it was in as well
and the attenna's we use are all the same
company trucks,,with company supplied coax and sticks
so im assuming this isnt the problem
any mods or adjustments can be made
to help it to hear better
and if anyone has the schematic scanned for the sound tracker model
id greatly appreciate it
thanks in advance
