I said I'd think it over. Some people take authoritarianism to the extreme. But I'd bet you wouldn't willfully violate the FCC operating rules back then. On the way back to the barracks, I saw a sign which simply said "73" with an arrow pointing to the back of a building. What the ... ??? a barbeque with beer and a lot of women going on. They made me feel welcome. Problem was, you needed a license (cb was licensed back then). No problem, they'd help with the paperwork. Well, I asked if this would do - and I pulled out my 1st class radiotelephone license. Instant membership plus 3 rigs to fix. Ah, the stereotypical myth. Hams are a bunch of "sticks in the mud", who are serious and law abiding. CBers, are a bunch of fun loving people, who throw caution (and the rules) to the wind. Which group would you rather be a part of? If we are now going to base our morality by the amount of "fun" we have, then I really hope it doesn't really become fun to shoot people randomly. The rigs got fixed, and beers kept being placed into my hand. What a time! It was a fun time. But most people become more responsible when they get older. I recall my youthful radio experiences quite fondly, even though I was no boy scout. The thing is that now I realize that many of those activities were irresponsible and not legal, fun not withstanding. If both cb and amateur radio could find a way to go back to the times when fun was had and no one had the time to argue. How much "fun" do CBers have when they are being overpowered by other "CBers", who's idea of "fun" is running excessive power? The standard answer from the lawless set, is to say; "turn it to the left, if you can't deal with it". The point is that these "fun" people, through their selfish and inconsiderate actions, are ruining the fun of others, who are at least trying to follow the intent of the rules. The rules were created so that everyone has a fair chance at equal access. Those who ignore the rules are taking away from those who are. In my book, that's being selfish and inconsiderate. Are these the people you want to be included with? If it irritates some of the folks that some hams come here to flame, go over to some of the amateur newsgroups. They're busy flaming each other! Hey, guys, wake up and smell the coffee! Sometimes when you see changes occuring, which are not in the best direction of the hobby, and of society itself, you tend to get defensive when others flaunt their newfound "fun" in your face, and make it seem like YOU have the problem, when you try to defend the concepts of responsibility, consideration, and just plain good manners. Can't we all just have fun and leave the police business to those charged with doing that? Those charged with enforcement are way overwhelmed to make much of a dent in these illegal activities. This fact is what enables the continued activities to continue. Most of these scofflaws would crawl under a rock, if there was a good chance that they'de be caught and punished harshly for their brand of "fun". Just a thought, but I've put on my asbestos underwear on just in case :)) You won't need it from me, although you might want to think about who it is that you're defending, even subtlely. There's none so blind as those who do not want to see. What he is missing, is that I have spoken out against some posts on here, such as Lou's spamming. I have also told people on CB newsgroups if something is illegal, and told people that they do not need an Amp... when they have asked. Because I do not rant on and try to beat people into submission, like they do, they refuse to see those posts. However, in spite of speaking out or warning against some illegal things, or some posts to the group, I find that the only problems I ever get are from "antis". They seem to be the only people here who see in black and white - a friend must agree with everything they say, anyone else is an enemy. And therein lies the gist of it all, who continues to make their posts off-topic and of me? They have shown what they are, when they post nothing of use to the group - just arguments, insults, etc. It didn't take them long to show their true purpose to me when I came to the group. Other newbies to the group will soon see them for what they are. If you continue to argue with them at the same rate, you may find yourself in some of the same killfiles as them... not because of who you are or what you believe, but just because people don't want to see the soap opera any more. I did not complain about the Web sites, but referred to the constant posts promoting them on this group. Now, where do you see constant posts purely to promote other sites? There is, of course, the constant reposts from Lou Franklin, and you surely must know that I have spoken out against his constant use of this group to promote his business. Do people try to claim that I am biased against Lou, his business, or even the illegal modifications that he promotes? I don't see any complaints from "keyclowns" about me speaking my mind... not even from Twist. Maybe, unlike you, they do not have a chip on their shoulder. Sure, I would rather that Lou kept his spam to the level needed to update the servers, no more than one copy per month. Sure, I would rather that Lou made attempts to encourage people to learn more so they know what they are doing. But, I would NOT want to see him or his business go. It was the same when Voob was posting the same message multiple times in just a couple of days. As I made clear then, I do not object to posts on these subjects... but making multiple posting is hogging bandwidth and space on struggling servers. There are fears that the Internet cannot sustain the way it's use is increasing, and it could all crash under the strain one day soon. Some ISPs servers are already unable to cope, my old ISP has dropped all newsgroup services, as they could not cope with the demands on their servers. The bandwidth it took from their system was incredible, and they probably got fed up with increasing the available disk space as the requirements kept increasing. Add to this the fact that people get fed up with seeing the same post over and over... and even wasting their download time on such repeated messages, it is all pointless. The only thing it does is to put people off using the newsgroup. |

I mean, if one is using a killfile for their own advantage, what is gained by telling another "I killfiled you"? It's akin to "na-na-na-na-boo-boo!" and serves no purpose except self-gratification to the person who thinks another actually gives a damn if they killfile someone or not.,,,in other words,,,"An Ego" trip. Killfiling for spam and related issues are notable exceptions. Killfiling because someone disagrees or doesn't do what one demands or because one doesnt like what another says is for the weak. My 11 year old Son - who is quite tall for his age and built like a tank - will not get involved in fights, yet my daughter - who is rather small for her age and lightweight - will punch someone's lights out just for looking at her the wrong way. It seems that she has given children as old as my Son some serious lip, and even the odd beating. They don't mess with her, and the teachers at school just see her as a quiet little angel.
