I don't think a batch of newcomers can unleash any more unholy blasphemy
onto the HF bands then what has already been said and done.

Most of the conversations I've heard on HF sound like rowdy barroom talk or
a bunch old maids sitting around on deflated hemorrhoid cushions complaining
about poor health and cat food.

????????????? It is FIFTEEN HUNDRED watts for *most* bands, but why is that
such a big deal? I can easily work the world with 100 watts or less. I have
a
650 watt (swang?) mobile amp sitting on the shelf. I don't
use it because I don't need to. I don't have the BIG POWAH ego of many hams
AND CBers that MUST have the biggest signal to compensate for other
inadequa-
cies. AND, there is a rule in the Amatuer Service that goes somelike this
(paraphrase): "One should use only the
amount of power necessary to establish and maintain contact with a maximum
of 1500 watts. It also means that one *could* be cited (tho I know of no one
who has) for
using "excess" power--whatever value that may be, which, I assume, is up to
FCC's discretion. In what is considered *normal* conversation, if one
station is being
heard with 100 watts with ease, and the other is using
1000 watts because he just "wants" to, then that is considered excessive.

There is a difference in interpretation in CB and ham radio. For the CBer
(and this is NOT some sort of "cut"), people seem to think that a
conversation is about
"winning" some sort of battle via "louder and prouder" than one's opponent"
(?), or having mo' watts than the other fella, etc. Amateur Radio is
supposed to be about
experimenting, learning how propagation works, and using power judiciously.
Does it always happen that way? No. Human nature, being what it is, has a
competetive element, and some operators take that to extreme. And, yes,
the group of CB ops here that I talk to do it within the law. They aren't
interested in BIG signals all over everywhere; they just want to talk to
their
buddies and that's it. Plenty of hams run around 100 watts because it is
what the radios are designed for. For some of us, it just isn't worth all
the hassle and expense to
have a BIG amp when 100 watts will do all that is needed. With that 100
watts, I have worked Russia, Estonia, Serbia, Europe, S Africa, Australia,
Hawaii,
and all kinds of S. American countries. Didn't no BIG
WATTS to do it.

i think they are getting rid of the code, and allowing newbies on the

From the instant a non-cber turns on a cb, to fiddling with it for a few

_
NOW you're talking my favorite game,,,low power dx,,,but heck, Jerry, I
long ago grew bored doing the world on 100 watts,,,,it wasn't even a
challenge any more......100 watts for across the pond contact is like
dropping a cluster bomb on citizens
because we're looking for someone who may have done something in the
future to endanger our,,,,,umm,,,,what would he have endangered again,
that had to do with us? You get my drift,,,,overkill : )
Try it with 3, 4 or 5 watt maximum,,,,,then try AM,,,then try FM,,,all
with single digit wattage capacity. When you make that contact across
the deep blue sea, experiment and see just how low you can go with the
wattage and try different modes, antennas, radios, etc.

Working the pond with three watts on a skip band isn't much of a challenge at
all, Dave. Last week I managed to squeeze 74 mW ERP out of my experimental
antenna on 162.5 kHz (and in case I didn't 'learn' you well enough the first
time, that's KILO-Hertz, not MEGA-Hertz) and someone picked up my beacon in SLC.
Now THAT'S a challenge!

How low can you go? There are very interesting things taking place
experimental-wise way down where only the freaks frequent.
Have you ever talked to an Emperor of a foreign country? An American
head of state in Sri Lanka? Both confirmed with cards and one of the
contacts was done on the freeband...real nice official card
received....American celeb hammies and the like don't impress
me,,,,perhaps if they were using a handheld near Victoria Falls I'd be
more inclined. Low power long distance is where it's at,,,except on the
bowl and tracks, of course.

Us "freaks" are accomplishing things that you couldn't comprehend. And at least
a couple of us "freaks" is playing on freqs around 0.01 Hz, although there is
increasing interest in VLF from 3 to 9 kHz.

Have you ever talked to an Emperor of a foreign country?

I'll bet they talk to a lot of people. Not much point in talking to them,
though, since most of them don't even listen to their own constituants.

An American

.....hmmmm, when was the last time a US President visited Sri Lanka....

Yet 1000 miles on 74 mW doesn't even ruffle your feathers. Right. Sure. Whatever

answering for posts directed toward him.

Dave, perceptions are funny things. Two people can drive down a road and see a
tree, but while one person remembers the tree in one place, the other might
remember it being someplace else, and the reality might be that the tree is not
in either of those places. Yet you, in your determination to prove to the whole
world that the tree you saw is in the place you thought is was, have not only
returned to that empty field, but have grabbed an axe and started swinging away
at thin air. In the meantime, a crowd of onlookers has gathered, staring in
disbelief as they watch some nut-case (that's you, Dave) dancing in a field
tripping on his ego. Relentlessly swinging away, undiscouraged by the comments
from the multitude of generally reasonable people, you must believe that either
the tree exists or that you are actually convincing everyone else that it exists
(or both). If you had any brains at all you would realize how stupid you look,
put down the axe and walk away. But you don't -- you just keep swinging away,
much to the delight of many curious folks who have never seen a full-fledged
loony gone berserk. They get their fill of this memorable exhibition of
ignorance then leave, only to tell their children the story of Dave McCampbell,
the fruitcake who spent years trying to chop down an invisible tree.

Swing away, TwistyDave! Swing away!

And "working the pond" would refer to just what? Across the ocean?

Duh.

Shoot, opposed to JerryO doing it on a 100 watts,,,yes, it most
certainly is much more of a challenge doing "the pond" in such a manner.

What does that mean, "...opposed to JerryO

doing it on a 100 watts..."?

Your communication deficit is full blown today.
It means, just waht it says...hahaha!
See, YOU took my comment to Jerry about working
the world with 3 watts and misappropriated it here. Your ignorance has
you ignoring Jerry's comment concerning working with 100 watts around
the world, in whicih I replied with a post about 3 watts,..you
know,,,,the one that has you drooling and scratching your filthy tshirt.
See what you can learn when force fed.....!

I'll rephrase the question so you can understand it: What's a 100 watts?

Do I need to 'learn' you, a "professional

journalist", in proper grammer again?

CB "grammer" (SIC) isn't proper, and Gillinad can spell "grammar." You
spell like Dave Hall or Geogre. Those two infamously, continually and
repeatedly spell like second graders that were held back. Of course, you
aer aware of that g.

I am also aware that TwistyDave can spell the word "are" correctly. You must not
be TwistyDave. You are an imposter.

When you can learn proper communication
technique. c'mon back and you won't have it so bad. Until then, feel
free to copy my smoke!

TwistyDave does not put a period where there should be a comma. QUIT FORGING
TWISTYDAVE, you IMPOSTER!!!

JerryO doesn't constitute "many." Name three more, two after that, and
you may be approaching "many" status in your two minion's eyes, no one
elses.

1. Leland Scott
2. Moparholic

Want some more? Beg some more.

Somehow I missed it, what was the question?

I know what you mean, I'm gonna have trouble remembering not to
call it Winston. I still don't completely understand
the playoff thing. I figure Nextel won't last as long as the
smokes did for a sponsor either.

It is not a playoff, and they are sure to say that it is not a playoff.

Go and believe them if you so choose, it IS a playoff.

playoffs?

Yes indeed Steveo Moparholic is a big dickface who knows nothing and
understands even less!
